The Enugu state government has trained 3,000 youths and women in various skills, including food processing, packaging, and preservation, to boost their economic prospects and reduce poverty in the state.
At a formal ceremony marking the end of the training program, Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Malachy Agbo, said, “The training is aimed at reducing poverty and the unemployment rate in the state.”
He noted that Governor Peter Mbah had promised to eradicate poverty in the state by 2031.
Agbo emphasized that the training is part of the administration’s broader initiative to empower residents with life-changing skills and strategies to improve their standard of living. He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training, saying, “These important trainings are aimed at changing your economic status.”
Beneficiary Amaka Ozor thanked the government for the training, saying, “We learnt a lot about food packaging, preservation, and processing, and I hope to be selling packaged foods in the market.”
The commissioner announced plans to empower more residents with business skills to enable them to earn a living and support their families.
