The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) has intensified efforts to secure wider stakeholder support for the successful hosting of the 9th All African Conference on Animal Agriculture (AACAA), scheduled to hold in Nigeria from August 9 to 13, 2026.
Speaking during a meeting with the conference Organising Committee in Abuja, Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, said stronger partnerships with the private sector, development organisations and professional bodies would be critical to delivering a successful continental event.
Maiha noted that preparations for the conference were gaining momentum, with progress recorded in participant registration, sponsorship drives, logistics planning and engagement with international and continental partners.
He commended the committee for key milestones already achieved, including the launch of the conference website, and urged members to sustain the pace of work.
The Minister described the conference as an important platform for showcasing Nigeria’s livestock sector and strengthening discussions on the future of animal agriculture across Africa.
He therefore called for increased efforts to attract sponsors and secure broader stakeholder participation ahead of the event.
Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Prof. Grace Jokthan, disclosed that registrations had continued to rise, reflecting growing interest in the conference.
She, however, stressed the need for sustained advocacy, fundraising and strategic engagement to boost participation and mobilise additional support.
The committee also reviewed measures aimed at increasing delegate participation, strengthening communication with registered attendees and finalising logistics for the conference.
The 9th AACAA is expected to bring together policymakers, researchers, livestock industry experts, development partners and private-sector operators from across Africa and beyond to discuss emerging issues and opportunities in animal agriculture and livestock development.
