FEPSAN Assures Farmers of Access to Quality Fertilizers

by AgroNigeria

As preparations gear up for the 2025 farming season, the Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN) has assured farmers across the country that they will have timely access to affordable, high-quality fertilizers.

This commitment was reiterated during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, where the association outlined its strategic plans and reaffirmed its support for the nation’s agricultural development goals.

FEPSAN President, Mr. Sadiq Kassim, highlighted the association’s resolve to provide farmers with the “right quality and right value” of fertilizers to enhance crop yields and overall productivity.

He further stated that this effort is in line with the food security objectives of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

“Our industry, working closely with relevant government agencies, is fully prepared to meet the demands of the 2025 farming season. Providing farmers with timely access to the appropriate fertilizer blends is critical to achieving our national food security targets,” Kassim said.

He also noted that the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), through PFI-NKEF Ltd, is actively working to resolve existing supply chain issues.

Plans are underway for the distribution of over 345,000 tons of fertilizer products—including 100,000 tons of DAP and 135,000 tons of Granular Ammonium Sulphate—which are scheduled to begin by the end of April and are expected to arrive by May.

Looking back on the setbacks experienced during the 2023 farming season, Mr. Sadiq Kassim acknowledged that limited access to raw materials had affected the supply of essential fertilizers, including 80,000 tons of DAP, 60,000 tons of NPK, and 1.1 million tons of Urea.

To prevent a repeat of these challenges, proactive measures are now being implemented.

To ensure farmers receive value for money, FEPSAN is working with research institutions to develop cost-efficient, region-specific fertilizer blends that meet the unique nutrient requirements of different soils across the country.

Kassim explained that this initiative aims to improve productivity and deliver better results for farmers.

He also assured that all fertilizers produced under FEPSAN adhere strictly to the standards outlined in the Fertilizer Quality Control Act of 2019.

These standards are enforced by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities to guarantee both product quality and safety.

Addressing environmental concerns, Kassim emphasized the industry’s increasing focus on enhancing soil health and encouraging climate-smart agricultural practices.

He noted that these efforts are being advanced through partnerships with government agencies and greater farmer education.

Kassim also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to maintain his administration’s support for the fertilizer sector by equipping relevant ministries and regulatory bodies to build on the achievements of the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI).

“Our goal is to build a collaborative framework where farmers, regulators, and industry leaders work together to drive sustainable growth across the agricultural value chain,” he said.
