by AgroNigeria

In a move to boost agricultural innovation and human capital development, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Council of the newly established Federal College of Agriculture and Technology, Nabanje, in Katsina State.

At the official ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, described the college as a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector through education, research, and innovation.

Prof. Suwaiba highlighted that the council members were selected based on their distinguished records in leadership and national service.

She urged them to approach their roles with integrity and foresight, stressing that the college’s success would hinge on strong governance, community engagement, and strategic collaboration.

She said: “Your appointment is not just an honour, but a call to serve our country through transformational leadership in education and agriculture.

“This institution is strategically positioned to contribute to Nigeria’s drive for food security, youth employment, and sustainable economic growth.”

The minister encouraged the newly appointed council to work closely with stakeholders, including the private sector and international partners, to fulfill the college’s mission.

She also charged them with creating a five-to-ten-year strategic roadmap in partnership with the institution’s management.

While acknowledging that the council positions do not come with substantial financial rewards, Ahmad reminded members of the patriotic nature of their task.

“Your job is a national duty. Build a legacy your grandchildren will remember,” she urged.

In his response, Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Oluwagbemi Tai, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the Ministry of Education, and the National Assembly for making the college a reality.

“We want to build a centre of excellence that will be second to none in the region,” he declared.

Other members of the governing council include Alhaji Labiru Kafur, Alhaji Yusuf Hassan, Prof. Abdusamad Jibia, Prof. Inuwa Usman, and Dr. Mukhtar Habib, who currently serves as the Provost of the college.
