FG to Support 2000 PWDs With  Food Palliative, Cash in North-East Region

The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of food items and cash to 2,000 vulnerable individuals and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the North Eastern region.

The initiative, launched by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, in Damaturu, Yobe State, aims to support at least 500 PWD households in Yobe and 2,000 households across the North East.

The support includes providing essential food supplies, such as bags of rice, and cash to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

“About 2,000 beneficiaries are being targeted in the Northeast because the region has the highest number of Persons With Disabilities as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency,” Isa said. “The number of internally displaced people and vulnerable groups in the Northeast has skyrocketed due to the onslaught of the terrorist group.”

He announced that the distribution, which will continue across the remaining states in the region, is part of the government’s effort to promote social inclusion and reduce food insecurity among the most vulnerable populations.

According to Isa, a committee has been established to ensure a seamless exercise, working with locals to identify beneficiaries.

He further noted that the distribution exercise is part of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations, ensuring that no one is left behind in addressing food insecurity.
