The Yewa North Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State, led by Chairman Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has launched a registration drive for the distribution of improved cash crop seedlings to local farmers.
This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods within the community.
The registration, which began on December 10, 2024, is set to conclude on January 31, 2025. It covers the Empowerment of Cocoa Dapo Seedlings, Cashew Dapo Seedlings, and Palm Oil Dapo Seedlings.
However , this timeline is designed to facilitate effective planning for the subsequent distribution phase, scheduled to align with the forthcoming rainy season.
In a statement at the local government secretariat in Ayetoro, Dr. Akinbode highlighted that this program complements previous initiatives, such as the Adire Dapo Kampala training, which benefited over 1,000 residents. These efforts are in line with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA agenda, focusing on poverty alleviation across Ogun State.
Dr. Akinbode expressed his commitment to leveraging state government support to position Yewa North LGA as the state’s food basket.
He emphasized that this initiative fulfills his campaign promise to significantly reduce poverty and unemployment.
He also encouraged residents to participate in the registration exercise to take advantage of the cash crop seedling distribution.
However, this empowerment program is expected to boost agricultural output, enhance food security, and provide economic opportunities for farmers in Yewa North LGA.
