The Guri Local Government Council of Jigawa has distributed farm inputs to 200 rice farmers to cultivate 100 hectares of land to boost 2025 dry season farming.
This was contained in a statement on Saturday in Dutse by Fahad Muhammad, the information officer of the council.
Mr Muhammad said the farmers were each given two bags of Urea, five bags of NPK fertilisers, insecticides, seeds, sprayer and water pump.
He said that boreholes were also sunk for each of the selected farmers for adequate water supply.
Mr Muhammad quoted the council’s chairman, Abubakar Umar-Danbarde, as urging the beneficiaries to utilise the inputs judiciously in order to achieve the desired goal.
“Umar-Danbarde also warned the farmers against selling the inputs, saying that any one found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.”
According to him, the chairman assured that the council would closely monitor the beneficiaries in order to ensure effective utilisation of the inputs for maximum results.
Mr Umar-Danbarde commended Gov. Umar Namadi for allocating 100 hectares of farmland to each of the 27 local government areas of the state for rice cultivation.
He said the gesture would go a long way in boosting rice production in the state and the country at large.
