National President of the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN), Khalil Bello, has urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to sustain its dedicated efforts in advancing the livestock sector while fostering broad development across the North East region.
During a visit to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, Bello emphasized that addressing the persistent conflicts between herders and farmers is crucial to ensuring lasting peace, stability, and unity in Nigeria.
He argued that tackling these conflicts would not only help in building better relationships among communities but also contribute to creating a more peaceful and cohesive environment, which is essential for progress throughout the region and the country.
In his remarks, Bello expressed strong support for the NEDC’s efforts to develop the livestock sector, praising the commission for its positive contributions to the region’s growth.
He highlighted the significant role that the NEDC has played in improving the livelihoods of local communities, noting that the commission’s initiatives benefit not only the livestock industry but also the broader socio-economic fabric of the North East.
Bello emphasized that the NEDC’s ongoing work is essential to creating a thriving and prosperous region.
Bello also commended the NEDC for its inclusive approach to development, which has made it a crucial force for unity in the North East.
He pointed out that the commission’s work transcends political, ethnic, and religious boundaries, ensuring that all communities in the region benefit from its programs and services.
According to Bello, this inclusive strategy is an important factor in promoting social cohesion and fostering a sense of shared purpose among the diverse populations of the region.
Bello further highlighted the NEDC’s collaborative efforts with local governments and security agencies in the region, praising the commission for its role in restoring peace and stability.
He underscored that the NEDC’s ability to work with various partners—local authorities, security forces, and other stakeholders—has played a key role in creating a stable environment, one that is conducive to development.
Bello emphasized that this level of collaboration is critical to achieving long-term growth and stability in the North East.
Bello also acknowledged the NEDC’s recognition as one of the most effective development commissions in Nigeria.
He pointed out that the commission’s achievements, such as its prompt response to emergencies like the floods in Maiduguri, have earned it admiration not only in the North East but also across the entire country.
He noted that the NEDC’s success has prompted calls for the establishment of similar commissions in other parts of Nigeria, demonstrating the high regard in which the commission is held.
He acknowledged he NEDC’s contributions to infrastructure development across the region.
He mentioned the rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges as key examples of the commission’s efforts to rebuild essential infrastructure that is critical to the region’s overall development.
These projects, he said, have improved the quality of life for the people in the North East and are essential to ensuring that communities have access to the services they need to thrive in the long term.
Bello also noted the NEDC’s inclusive policies, which have particularly benefited pastoralists and other vulnerable groups in the region.
He pointed to initiatives such as the establishment of water points and the distribution of palliative aid as evidence of the commission’s commitment to supporting the needs of pastoralist communities.
According to Bello, these efforts show the NEDC’s recognition of the unique challenges faced by these groups and its determination to address them in a meaningful and sustainable way.
