The Kaduna State Government has launched a N74 billion agricultural transformation initiative aimed at positioning the state as Nigeria’s premier food hub and strengthening food security, rural development, and agribusiness under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.
Speaking at the quarterly ministerial briefing held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, said the initiative includes the distribution of over 500 trucks of fertilizer and 100,000 free bags to farmers, alongside improved maize seeds and agrochemicals under the Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) programme.
To drive mechanisation, the state has procured 500 power tillers, 10,000 solar-powered water pumps, and several tractors, which will be made available through public-private mechanization hubs.
Dabo added that an extra N200 million has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of key irrigation infrastructure, and the state has shown interest in participating in the World Bank’s $500 million Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SPIN) initiative.
He also noted that 16 rural roads have already been rehabilitated under the RAAMP project, significantly improving market access for farmers across the state.
