The Katsina State government has announced plans to rehabilitate the 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm, which has been dormant for nearly two decades, as part of its strategy to address persistent power outages.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda disclosed this initiative after meeting with Vergnet Groupe, the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), in Paris, France.
Accompanied by the Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, the governor emphasized the state’s commitment to restoring the wind farm’s capacity to meet Katsina’s growing energy demands.
Governor Radda highlighted the project’s alignment with Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Master Plan and the country’s 2060 net-zero emissions goals.
He also announced plans for a 10MW solar farm to complement the wind energy project.
“These renewable energy initiatives will provide clean energy to power approximately 4,400 homes across Katsina State, positioning the state as a renewable energy hub in Nigeria,” Radda said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
The projects are expected to contribute significantly to the state’s energy infrastructure and support Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
