The Zango local government area of Katsina State has launched an ambitious 11-month farming cycle in order to address economic hardship and food scarcity of the state.
This initiative aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s agricultural policies aimed at mitigating economic difficulties.
According to Council Chairman Hon. Ahmed Babangida, the local government has distributed over two million improved seedlings, solar water pumps, and fertilizers at a 35% subsidized rate to encourage farming.
He noted that power tiller machines have been provided to enhance mechanized agriculture, while extension workers have been equipped with motorcycles and logistics support to promote modern farming techniques.
The council has also introduced empowerment programs for women and youth, providing goats and N20,000 to support small-scale trade and livestock businesses.
To enhance security and protect farmers, open grazing has been banned, with three vehicles and ten motorcycles deployed for security patrols.
Hon. Babangida expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for his support, particularly in establishing the Community Development Committee (CDC) and approving funds to accelerate rural development.
The council remains committed to supporting the governor’s vision to transform the state.
