The Kebbi State Government has announced the rescheduling of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival from February 2025 to 2026, citing the need for infrastructural renovations and ongoing development projects in Argungu Township.
The chairman of the festival and deputy governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
He stated that the decision, made in consultation with the Argungu Emirate Council, aims to improve festival venues and enhance visitor experience.
First held in 1934, the Argungu Festival is one of Nigeria’s most renowned cultural events, attracting local and international tourists with its iconic fishing competition, canoe racing, and traditional displays.
Tafida assured that the postponement will allow for better preparations to host a grander and more impactful edition in 2026, further promoting Kebbi’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential.
