A group of cluster farmers in Kwara State, operating under the Millennium United Rural Farmers Foundation, has praised the state government for its initiatives aimed at revitalizing agriculture and enhancing rural development.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s national president, Alhaji Aremu Alawaye, acknowledged the government’s efforts in providing infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for rural farmers and communities.
He noted that these initiatives have significantly contributed to sustainable economic growth and development.
The group also commended the government for distributing agricultural inputs in 2024 through the NAGS-AP program. It highlighted additional support provided to farmers’ cluster groups in Kaiama, Baruten, Moro, Asa, Edu, Patigi, and Ifelodun local government areas, which has led to increased crop yields.
“We appreciate the government’s support in providing tractors, extension services, and attracting private investments to Kwara State,” Alawaye stated.
He further noted that two investors, Amo Byng and Gbemtam, have been engaged in soybean outgrowing projects to strengthen rural development and enhance food security.
While acknowledging the government’s achievements and investments in agriculture and rural development in 2024, the group urged for increased funding in 2025 to further accelerate progress in these sectors, ensuring long-term economic growth and sustainability.
“These investments will enhance efficient farming, boost agricultural output, strengthen food security, create jobs, and expand employment opportunities for our growing youth and women population.
Additionally, they will stimulate commercial and economic activities through the agricultural value chain,” he stated.
The group further noted that its national coordinator and secretary, Mr. Akeem Adio, praised the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, for her dedication to advancing agriculture and fostering rural development.
“She has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the ministry, and we take pride in her humility, integrity, dedication, strategic approach, and unwavering commitment to productivity and excellence.
“She has played a key role in securing support services from the federal and state governments, as well as international partners and private investors, to accelerate agricultural and rural development in the state. Her outstanding contributions have solidified her reputation as a highly successful administrator, leaving a lasting impact on the ministry.”
The foundation also commended the efforts of cluster groups in Apatalaje, Gbajibo, Moshe-Gbofa, Gwasorro, and Idi Apa, along with commodity associations such as AFAN, FACAN, and, notably, the Nigerian Soybeans Association, for their dedication to advancing agricultural development.
