Kwara State Government has urged fish farmers in the state to provide a comprehensive database of its members in order to aid the government in policy making decisions.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Husman Yunusa Lade, said this in Ilorin when members of the Association of Fish Farmers in Kwara State (AFFAK) paid him a courtesy visit at his office, where he noted that the present administration in the state is building on the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He revealed that the administration of President Tinubu has made food security a priority, making reference to the renaming of the Ministry of Agriculture to include food security.
“President Tinubu created a new ministry; Marine and Blue Economy, which will ensure sustainable growth, improved livelihoods, and creation of jobs while also preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.
“Every government is looking towards the Blue Economy right now and it is only right that the Kwara State Government also does all in its capacity to ensure that we support your Association and also create more jobs for the teeming youths,” he said.
Speaking during the visit was also the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, who appreciated the efforts of the Fish Farmers, noting that the association’s requests needed to follow due process and necessary protocols.
Earlier in their own remarks, the President of the Association of Fish Farmers in the State, Brig. General Saidu Oladipo(rtd) and Chairman of the Body of Trustees, Babatunde Salami had briefed the commissioner on their past efforts to bring together all the fish farmers and producers in the state.
