Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has revealed that the Mubi livestock market supplies 29 million animals to Lagos annually, generating N29 billion in revenue.
The governor made this disclosure during a meeting with the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, where he emphasised the significant contribution of the livestock industry to the state’s economy.
He also called on the federal government to remove obstacles hindering the trade, including roadblocks and extortion of cattle traders on highways.
Governor Fintiri then commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development and appointing Maiha, describing it as a significant decision that will revitalise the sector.
Meanwhile, in his address, Maiha acknowledged Adamawa State’s rich animal resources and thanked the governor for the warm reception.
He lauded the governor’s foresight in building a northern international cattle market in Mubi and praised the state’s urban infrastructure.
Maiha also acknowledged the federal government’s commitment to leveraging the livestock sector’s potential for the country’s benefit, highlighting the country’s 415 grazing reserves, with Adamawa State boasting over 33 reserves.
