The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a warehouse in Sokoto State, identified as Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd, after discovering 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and other unregistered food products.
According to NAFDAC, the warehouse was found to be selling raw MSG, imported under a permit for processing, directly as a finished product.
The quantity of MSG found exceeded the approved amount, violating NAFDAC regulations.
“Unregistered items such as Orange Fruity (193 cartons) and Toffeeman Coconut Bites (71 cartons) were also seized,” NAFDAC stated.
Further inspection at Sokoto Old Market revealed 235 bags of FUFENG Monosodium Glutamate stored in various shops, which were immediately placed on hold.
The company’s representative has been arrested and is under interrogation as the agency pursues regulatory sanctions.
