Nasarawa Govt Unveils Ambitious Agricultural Strategy for 2025

by AgroNigeria

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture has revealed the state’s comprehensive agricultural strategy for 2025, prioritizing security, farmer empowerment, and large-scale farming to transform the sector and ensure sustainable growth.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lafia on Tuesday, the commissioner commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for fostering an enabling environment for agriculture through peace and security.

“The governor has been instrumental in creating a secure atmosphere, which is essential for agricultural productivity. His administration has supported farmers with seedlings, training, and resources, ensuring they are equipped for success,” he said.

Citing the achievements of the 10,000-hectare rice farm in Jangwa, Awe Local Government Area, the commissioner highlighted that over 2,000 hectares were successfully harvested in 2024. “This milestone showcases Nasarawa’s potential as an agricultural hub and the capacity of our farmers when adequately supported,” he added.

For 2025, the commissioner emphasized a focus on active fieldwork and stakeholder participation, declaring, “Agriculture in Nasarawa will move beyond rhetoric to action. Farmers, stakeholders, and government officials must roll up their sleeves and contribute meaningfully.”

He called on stakeholders across all divides to collaborate on the Nasarawa Agricultural Plan, emphasizing unity for progress.

“This is not just about food production but also about job creation, food security, and economic growth. Let’s work together to achieve these goals,” he urged.

The commissioner also appealed for peace among residents as the state transitions into the new year.“Without peace, progress is impossible. I encourage everyone to remain peaceful and support our agricultural initiatives for collective benefit,” he said.

Governor Sule’s vision for agriculture, which has included significant investments in farmer training and modern equipment, received high praise.

“The strides we have made—from high-yield seed distribution to capacity-building workshops—reflect the administration’s dedication to sustainable agriculture,” the commissioner remarked.

Looking ahead, the ministry plans to expand existing farms, replicate the success of the Jangwa rice farm in other areas, and ensure inclusive growth for all farmers. “We aim to leave no farmer behind, expanding opportunities across the state,” he pledged.

He assured farmers of continued government support, including subsidies for inputs and access to credit facilities. “We understand the challenges farmers face, and we are committed to easing their burdens,” he said.

The commissioner also invited international development partners and investors to explore Nasarawa’s agricultural potential.

“Nasarawa is ready for business, with fertile land, hardworking farmers, and a government willing to collaborate. Let us make Nasarawa a model for agriculture in Nigeria,” he stated.

Stressing the importance of innovation, the commissioner urged farmers to adopt modern technologies such as precision farming and mechanization to remain competitive.

He also highlighted youth and women empowerment as a key focus of the state’s agricultural revolution.

“Women and young people are the backbone of our communities, and their active involvement is essential to our success,” he noted.

Expressing optimism about the future, the commissioner concluded, “With the right policies, commitment, and collaboration, Nasarawa will emerge as a leading agricultural state in Nigeria. Together, we can make this vision a reality.”
