The Niger State House of Assembly has unanimously passed the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Law 2024, the university will focus on specialized training on agriculture and climate action.
The development followed a thorough review of the report presented by the Committee on Tertiary Education.
Speaking during the plenary session, Mohammad Sani Idris, the committee chairman, noted that the university will focus on specialized training in agriculture and climate action and integrate modern technologies and practices in line with the National University Commission’s approved curriculum.
“The bill seeks to establish a new state university to be known as Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action as well as seeks to transform the Niger College of Agriculture to a University.
“The university, when established, is going to be a specialized training center with courses to be offered in the field of Agriculture and Climate Action where IT and modern practices and advancement in science and technology will be deployed fully in line with the approved curriculum by the National University Commission (NUC),” he added.
Following the presentation, the bill was considered clause by clause and received support from the members.
In his remarks, the Speaker who presided over the plenary of the House, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji commended the committee and assembly members for their efforts, and directed the clerk to send clean copies of the law to the governor for assent.
