Niger Launches Initiative to Speed up Cultivation of 4.5m Hectares of Arable Land in Shiroro LGA

The Niger State Government, over the weekend, launched an ambitious initiative to speed up the cultivation of approximately 4.5 million hectares of arable land in the Shitoro-Lamkpa axis of Shiroro Local Government Area. 

The Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, conveyed Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago’s commitment to implementing measures that would facilitate this extensive agricultural project within the state over the next 8 years. 

Accompanied by the State Commissioner of Lands, Maurice Magaji, and other government officials, they conducted an assessment tour covering 12 communities in the local government area.

During the tour, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba urged rural communities to align with the “New Niger Agenda” and collaborate with the government. 

He disclosed plans to acquire earthmoving equipment, including Caterpillars, Bulldozers, Pale Loaders, and Graders, on a long lease to prepare land for the cultivation of 4.5 million hectares. 

The Village Head of Pina and Dagacin Gussoro commended the foresight of Governor Muhammad Umar Bago’s administration, expressing full support for the transformative New Niger agenda in Agriculture. 

The Deputy Governor concluded the assessment tour by visiting communities such as Shakwata, Tachipi, Agogoyi, Pina, Tawo, Pmawyi, Kuta, Gussoro, Zumba, and Gwada, concluding at Gadan Yan Biyu community in Shiroro LGA.
