As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, Nigeria and Egypt have agreed to elevate their relationship to a comprehensive partnership, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, and energy, among others.

This development aims to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two nations, with a focus on mutual respect for unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The agreement was reached during the third round of political consultations between Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Foreign Minister, in Cairo, Egypt.

The ministers identified several key sectors for increased bilateral economic engagement, including agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and infrastructure.

They agreed to enhance cooperation in these areas, with a focus on promoting trade and investment between the two countries.

The ministers also agreed to establish a Nigeria-Egypt Chamber of Commerce by the end of 2025, which is expected to be launched during the fourth round of ministerial-level consultations in Abuja in 2026.

This initiative aims to promote trade and investment between the two countries, facilitating business-to-business interactions and fostering economic growth.

Recognizing the shared threat of terrorism and extremism, Egypt and Nigeria agreed to enhance security cooperation through shared experiences in implementing comprehensive counter-terrorism strategies.

The two countries also reaffirmed their dedication to backing Africa’s conflict resolution efforts, focusing on initiatives that promote peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Both countries pledged to strengthen their coordination on regional and international issues, bolstering the African Union’s role in addressing continental challenges and promoting integration.

They also promised to work in synergy to advance democracy, good governance, and the objectives of Agenda 2063.
