The Nordic ambassadors from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway have stressed the importance of sustainable food production and international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges.
At a Nordic food feast hosted by Finnish Ambassador Sanna Selin in Abuja, they highlighted the need for innovative solutions and collaboration.
Danish Ambassador Jens Hansen noted, “Our planet is already struggling. Therefore, we need to find new ways to sustainably increase food production and at the same time balance how it affects the environment.”
He emphasized the importance of cooperation between Nordic and African countries, exchanging knowledge, technology, and innovative solutions.
The ambassadors also discussed successful initiatives, such as the Danish-Swedish dairy cooperative’s investment in Kaduna, which aims to support smallholder dairy farmers through training and cooperative support.
Finnish Ambassador Selin highlighted the Nordic countries’ commitment to environmental sustainability and animal welfare, with low antibiotic use in farming and innovative plant-based meat alternatives.
Swedish Ambassador Annika Hahn-Englund emphasized Nigeria’s significance as a key partner, urging investments in climate-smart agriculture and infrastructure.
Norwegian Ambassador Svein Baera reinforced the Nordic vision of becoming the most sustainable region globally, advocating for gender equality and constructive dialogue.
