NWAPDI to Distribute 250,000 Smartphones With E-healthcare Features to Female Farmers

by AgroNigeria

The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) has announced plans to distribute 250,000 smartphones with e-healthcare features to female farmers across Nigeria, aimed at improving their productivity and well-being.

Speaking on the initiative, the National Coordinator of NWAPDI, Omolara Svensson, emphasized the organization’s commitment to leveraging technology for agricultural transformation.

She stated that the smartphones would enhance digital inclusion, providing farmers with access to mobile health applications, precision farming tools, and real-time agricultural information.

NWAPDI, which formally separated from the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) with approval from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has played a key role in women’s empowerment in agriculture.

In 2024, the organization trained 10,000 women and youths in modern agricultural practices and expanded access to micro-loans and agricultural inputs for rural farmers.

Svensson also highlighted FarmAssure, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system designed to improve farm operations, crop management, and supply chain logistics.

She further introduced AgriCert, a blockchain-enabled framework that secures financial transactions between buyers and suppliers, ensuring transparency in agricultural trade.

She explained that FarmAssure integrates AI, IoT, and blockchain technologies to enhance productivity, while AgriCert strengthens supply chain traceability and compliance with international trade standards.

According to her, NWAPDI aims to facilitate $20 million in agricultural exports through AgriCert, boosting market access for women farmers.

As part of its 2025 agenda, NWAPDI will roll out FarmAssure to 30 percent of its members and train 2,000 farmers on its usage. It will also deploy 250,000 smartphones with e-healthcare features in partnership with telecom providers to enhance digital and health inclusion for female farmers.

Svensson reaffirmed NWAPDI’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture through technology, financial inclusion, and skill development, ensuring sustainable agricultureal growth in Nigeria.
