OCP Africa Offers N10M Scholarship to Agric Students

OCP Africa, a subsidiary of OCP Group OCP Africa, has committed N10 million to the Brightest University Fund to provide scholarship opportunities to the best 81 high school students.

The company announced an N100m crowdfunding campaign on Sunday for the top 81 high school students studying agricultural science in Nigeria.

According to a released statement by OCP, the fund would be disbursed transparently, to provide scholarship opportunities to the best 81 brightest students who emerged from the large pool of participants in the just-concluded national qualifying examination.

OCP Africa Nigeria Country Manager, Oluwatoba Asana, stated that one of OCP Africa’s missions was to support and promote the study and practice of agriculture in Nigeria.

His words: “By investing in education, OCP Africa aims to equip young Africans with the knowledge and skills needed to address pressing agricultural and environmental challenges.”

While appreciating the gesture, the Executive Producer of Brightest National Agric Science Quiz Contest and Group Managing Director of DM Holdings Limited, Oladapo Ojo, stated that the N10m donation was a confirmation of OCP Africa’s commitment to education and youth empowerment in Africa.

“This will go a long way in setting the ball rolling for the first educational crowdfunded initiative in Africa designed to create life-changing opportunities for young, aspiring agriculturists, scientists, researchers, and inventors,” Ojo added.

According to the firm, 16,039 students from 2,559 schools across the nation enrolled for the competition, out of which 81 students from 57 schools across the six geo-political zones made the cut for the second phase.
