At a recent gathering in Port Harcourt, the CEO, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni, highlighted Nigeria’s potential to excel in the international market through palm kernel exports.
Ayeni urged exporters to think beyond containers and aim for shiploads to compete effectively.
She, however, highlighted the importance of developing a global mindset among exporters in the South-South region, particularly in the oil palm value chain.
She stressed the need for collaboration between exporters, business owners, and public sector support institutions to boost non-oil export businesses for wealth and job creation.
According to her, “NEPC’s mandate to promote non-oil exports includes helping exporters develop products, access markets, and provide necessary information for their export journey.”
Ayeni emphasized the importance of scaling up production capacity and focusing on value addition to compete globally.
Initiatives such as ‘Operation Double Your Export’ and ‘NEPC Connect’ aim to increase the volume and value of non-oil exports, bridge the gap between the Council and stakeholders, and provide support for packaging, labeling, and certification.
Stakeholders from the non-oil export sector convened to discuss critical issues and explore solutions for sector development, with representatives from NEPC and the Institute of Export Operation and Management in attendance.
