Police Dismiss Report on Herdsmen Invasion of Eha-Amufu, Isiuzo LGA in Enugu

by AgroNigeria

The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed online reports alleging that herdsmen have taken over homes and schools in Eha-Amufu, Isiuzo Local Government Area, describing them as false and misleading.

In a statement released yesterday, the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, clarified that no community in Eha-Amufu or anywhere in Enugu State has been invaded, placed under siege, or had its residents displaced, as claimed in the reports.

He further explained that the so-called farm settlements reportedly occupied by herdsmen are temporary shelters used by farmers who periodically return to their permanent homes in the villages.

Ndukwe acknowledged that while some farmers were temporarily displaced from these settlements during farmer-herder clashes in 2021 and 2022, peace and stability have since been restored through coordinated security efforts.

He also highlighted the proactive measures taken by the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to strengthen security in Eha-Amufu. These initiatives include deploying 150 military personnel and well-equipped Special Forces, constructing security barracks, and nearly completing the 21.7km Agape-Agu Mgbuji-Ogbete access roads leading to farm settlements.

Additionally, Ndukwe condemned the media outlet that published the misleading report, noting that it disregarded verified facts and relied on unrelated images from past incidents in neighboring states. A thorough forensic and digital fact-check revealed that these images were repurposed to create a false narrative, instilling unnecessary fear in the public.

Ndukwe pointed out that images of burnt houses, originally shared by Amnesty International to condemn the February 4, 2025, attack on the Nkalaeha community in a neighboring state, were falsely presented in the report as a recent incident in Eha-Amufu farm settlements.

He further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has urged the public to disregard the misleading report, reaffirming the commitment of the Police and other security agencies to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state.

Additionally, Ndukwe conveyed the Commissioner’s call for residents, especially those in the communities mentioned in the report, to remain law-abiding, collaborate with security agencies, and report any genuine security concerns through appropriate channels.
