In a bid to enhance food security in Bauchi State, House of Representatives member for Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency under the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon Jafaru Gambo Leko, said essential farm inputs will improve agricultural productivity and sustainability, while empowering 325 farmers in his constituency.
The distribution event took place on Saturday in Bogoro, where Leko stated that the exercise was one of his key campaign promises.
He emphasised that this initiative aims to support local farmers by providing vital resources necessary for efficient agricultural activities. This, he said, will boost local agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of the constituents.
Addressing the gathering, Leko stated, “The items distributed include 100 water pumps, 100 farm sprayers, 100 organic liquid fertilisers, and 25 grinding machines to 325 constituents.”
He stressed that empowerment is a crucial tool in combating poverty and highlighted his commitment to supporting rural development through practical and sustainable initiatives.
Represented at the event by Abdulrashheed Ahmed Muazu, the member representing Tafawa Balewa Constituency in the State Assembly, Leko reiterated the importance of empowerment in ensuring food security.
He said, “This effort will have a direct positive impact on the agricultural sector in our constituency, and we are dedicated to continuing such initiatives to support our people.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Alhassan Sadiq, praised the lawmaker for his empowerment initiative.
He encouraged those who have not yet benefited to remain patient, assuring them that additional empowerment programs are forthcoming, and their turn will come.
Rabiu Garba, APC Legal Officer and stakeholder in the constituency, also lauded the empowerment initiative. He appreciated all party members for their patience and participation during the ceremony, highlighting the importance of community support in such endeavours.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Rejoice Gideon expressed her gratitude, saying, “The water pump machine will enhance our irrigation systems and improve drought-resistant crop varieties.”
Leko also cautioned recipients against selling the farm inputs, encouraging them to engage actively in farming to boost food production. He pledged to continue these empowerment initiatives, aiming to provide ongoing support to improve the livelihoods of his constituents and enhance the overall agricultural productivity in the region.
