The Rivers State government has committed to restoring the Songhai Integrated Farms as part of efforts to enhance food production and generate sustainable employment for young people.
This assurance was given by the Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Rtd), during his inspection of the facility on Saturday in Bunu Tai, Tai Local Government Area.
He emphasized that bringing the farms back to life would boost agricultural output, promote food security, and cut down the state’s dependence on imported food items.
Ibas explained that the project would create job opportunities, especially for the youth, and have a positive impact on both the state and national economy.
He also pointed out that local farmers stand to gain, as the farm’s restoration would enhance agricultural support and boost local food production.
He called on community leaders, young people, and women to help safeguard public infrastructure by cooperating with security agencies to protect government-owned assets.
