The Federal Government’s food security agenda has received a significant boost in southwest Nigeria as Commissioners of Agriculture in six Southwest states unite in collaborative efforts.
The states involved are Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, and Ekiti, all working together to drive rural agricultural development and achieve food sufficiency.
According to Lagos State Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, “The primary objective of the intervention by regional Commissioners of Agriculture is to birth a modern and sustainable agricultural economy that emphasizes the production of high-quality products and value addition to align with market demands.”
Olusanya added that the objective is also to transform rural areas into modern, developed agricultural production centers, by building rural areas and improving the living standards of farmers.
This move is in line with the current administration’s ongoing restructuring of the agricultural sector, focusing on developing local products with competitive advantages and encouraging collaboration among localities and production centers.
