President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate rehabilitation and furnishing of the former Federal Ministry of Agriculture building to serve as the headquarters for the newly established Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
This directive was revealed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during an inspection of the building in Abuja’s Central Business District on Wednesday.
Wike explained that the inspection was to assess the building’s condition, with the FCT Administration set to invite companies to submit proposals for its renovation and furnishing.
“Rehabilitation is an urgent task following the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development. People are eager for the ministry to start its operations,” Wike said.
He added that President Tinubu had tasked the FCT Administration, through the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), to oversee the process.
“We have completed an integrity test on the building, which has confirmed it’s structurally sound. What remains now is the rehabilitation and furnishing to make it ready for use,” Wike stated.
The establishment of the new Ministry of Livestock Development was announced by President Tinubu on July 9, 2024. This move is part of a broader strategy to address the long-standing conflicts between farmers and herders across Nigeria.
