Ekiti to Become Nigeria’s Agro-allied Export Hub as New Airport Opens – Oyebanji

by AgroNigeria

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has announced that the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport is set to position the state as Nigeria’s leading hub for agro-allied exports.

Speaking during his New Year address, the governor lauded the recent approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for non-scheduled flight operations at the airport, describing it as a transformative milestone and a timely gift for the people of Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji stressed the significance of the achievement, emphasizing that the airport’s readiness for operations represents a pivotal step in Ekiti’s journey toward economic development.

He disclosed that the NCAA granted a six-month license for non-scheduled flights on December 13, 2024.

This period, he explained, will serve as a critical phase for testing the airport’s systems ahead of full operational activities scheduled for June 15, 2025.

“I am thrilled to announce that the Ekiti State Airport is now completed and ready for operations. On December 13, 2024, the NCAA granted a six-month license for the airport to commence non-scheduled flights, which will serve as a testing phase for the systems ahead of full operations scheduled for June 15, 2025. This, in my view, is the best New Year gift for the people of Ekiti,” the governor said.

The governor also noted that the operationalization of the airport aligns with his administration’s development blueprint, which focuses on positioning Ekiti as a gateway to global economic opportunities.

He expressed optimism that 2025 will mark a turning point for the state, with significant progress anticipated in food production, infrastructure, and governance.

“Our ultimate goal is to establish Ekiti as the agro-allied export hub of the country.

“We are determined to drive unprecedented growth in agriculture, infrastructure, and public service delivery. This year represents a collective leap toward shared prosperity and sustainable development.”

In his address, Governor Oyebanji also paid tribute to those who have contributed to the state’s progress.

He expressed gratitude to past and current leaders, including governors, deputy governors, lawmakers, judicial figures, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

He commended their dedication to Ekiti’s development, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving the state’s goals.

He further acknowledged the support of Ekiti’s diaspora community, describing them as invaluable partners in the state’s growth.

“In Ekiti, this is our year of accelerated growth in our shared journey toward prosperity.

We will witness massive improvements in food production, infrastructure, and government services like never before.”

Looking ahead, Governor Oyebanji predicted that 2025 would usher in a period of economic resurgence for both Ekiti and Nigeria at large, with increased productivity and revenue growth.
