The National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) is set to collaborate with URUS Genetics in a strategic partnership aimed at transforming ruminant feed systems and boosting livestock productivity in Nigeria.
As part of this initiative, representatives from URUS Genetics visited NIHORT to explore areas of joint investment and cooperation, with discussions centered on advancing silage, hay, pasture development, and forage production.
However, the partnership also seeks to enhance NIHORT’s cattle through artificial insemination using superior genetic materials from URUS.
By combining NIHORT’s expertise in sustainable forage technologies with URUS’s global leadership in cattle genetics, the collaboration aims to improve livestock resilience, profitability, and overall production capacity.
It aligns with both organizations’ commitment to sustainable agricultural development, food security, and economic growth in Nigeria’s livestock and horticultural value chains.
This initiative is expected to tackle pressing challenges in cattle nutrition and breed improvement, positioning Nigeria’s livestock industry for meaningful transformation.
URUS, formed in 2018, is a globally rooted holding company comprising agricultural powerhouses such as AgSource, Alta Genetics, GENEX, Genetics Australia, and others.
Through its advanced genetic and farm management solutions, URUS supports beef and dairy producers worldwide in improving herd performance and productivity.
