Senator Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, has committed over N1.3 billion to subsidize fertilizer for farmers across Zamfara State as part of efforts to support the 2025 wet season farming activities.
This was disclosed by Dr. Lawal M. Liman, Chairman of the Fertilizer Distribution Committee, during an inspection tour of a local fertilizer blending facility situated in Bungudu Local Government Area.
Dr. Liman noted that the supplier has already stocked 81 trucks of fertilizer under the initiative, ready for distribution.
In a related statement, Ibrahim Muhammad, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, emphasized that the primary beneficiaries of the subsidy are smallholder farmers, who play a vital role in the state’s agricultural sector.
Dr. Liman explained that the key aim is to help these farmers improve their yields and income by giving them access to fertilizer at a significantly reduced cost during the rainy season. Under the arrangement, each farmer will pay N20,000 per bag, far below the prevailing market rate of N45,000 to N50,000.
To ensure accessibility, the fertilizer will be delivered free of charge to the headquarters of each local government area.
Dr. Liman also assured that the distribution process will be transparent and free from political or partisan interference.
