FG Keen on Ensuring Agricultural Interventions Reach Genuine Farmers – Kyari

by AgroNigeria

The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a credible registry of farmers and farmlands across the country, beginning with a pilot phase in Nasarawa State, to ensure that agricultural interventions reach genuine producers.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, revealed this during a meeting with the leadership of the Amana Farmers and Grains Supplies Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) in Abuja.

He explained that the initiative, developed in partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), would help identify both cultivated farmlands and the farmers working on them.

Kyari emphasized that the new system would end the era of interventions being diverted to “farmers by name,” stressing that only those actively cultivating crops would benefit.

He called on AFGSAN and other credible associations to assist in mobilizing genuine farmers for the registry.

Highlighting the broader partnership with AFGSAN, the minister assured that the government would provide enabling policies, capital access, and credit facilities to support farmers in driving food sovereignty, economic diversification, and income growth.

On his part, AFGSAN Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Ahmed Fanbeguwa, pledged the association’s commitment to work with the ministry in implementing sustainable agricultural projects that align with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
