The newly inaugurated youth leader of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Edo State chapter, Comrade Edosa Unity Henry, has unveiled a roadmap aimed at transforming the agricultural sector through youth empowerment, innovation, and strategic collaboration.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held in Benin City, Comrade Henry highlighted his administration’s core priorities, stressing the need to reposition agriculture as a viable and attractive venture for young people in the state.

According to him, the focus areas include capacity-building through training and mentorship, improved access to funding opportunities for young farmers, and the promotion of agribusiness innovations that drive value addition.

He emphasized that his leadership will work towards building strong partnerships with government institutions, private sector stakeholders, and international development organisations. According to him, these collaborations are essential for unlocking resources and expertise that can elevate farming beyond subsistence to a commercially sustainable enterprise.

“Our goal is to create an enabling environment where young people see agriculture as a first-choice career, not a fallback option,” he said. “We are committed to making farming more appealing by integrating technology, improving profitability, and creating a network of empowered agripreneurs across Edo State.”

The inauguration, which drew participation from agricultural stakeholders, youth organisations, and representatives of government bodies, was marked by a renewed sense of purpose and solidarity. Many attendees pledged their support for the new youth leadership, expressing optimism about the future of agriculture in the state.

National and state executives of AFAN who attended the event commended Comrade Henry for his vision and passion. They described his emergence as a timely development in the quest to build a new generation of innovative young farmers who can contribute meaningfully to food security and economic growth.
