Reps Intensify Efforts to Probe Alleged Mismanagement of N2trn Agricultural Intervention Fund

The House of Representatives has moved to deepen its investigation into the alleged mismanagement of an estimated N2 trillion in agricultural intervention funds, summoning major financial institutions and key agencies for a third round of hearings.

In a formal invitation signed by the Chairman of the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Chike Okafor, the Committee directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Unity Bank, Ecobank, Keystone Bank, Trust Microfinance Bank, Prospects MFB, the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) and the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to appear before it on Tuesday.

The invitation also scheduled the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, and NIRSAL PLC for appearance on Wednesday, as lawmakers continue to scrutinize the handling of funds disbursed under various agricultural programmes implemented outside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The ongoing inquiry stems from a resolution adopted by the House on July 1, 2025, directing the Committees on Nutrition and Food Security; Agricultural Production and Services; Agricultural Colleges and Institutions; and Finance to jointly investigate allegations of widespread misuse of government-backed agricultural schemes and interventions.

Since receiving the mandate, the Committee has held two previous sessions—on April 8 and June 16, 2025—with the upcoming sittings marking the third phase of the inquiry as legislators push for accountability and transparency in the nation’s agricultural financing system.
