Taraba State has launched Taraba Seeds Limited, a groundbreaking company aimed at delivering high-quality, climate-resilient seeds to farmers nationwide and strengthening Nigeria’s food security.
Governor Agbu Kefas unveiled the initiative, calling it a game-changer for farmers struggling with poor seed access.
He emphasized its role in shifting agriculture from subsistence to a modern, profitable sector that ensures stable food supplies and sustainable livelihoods.
“This goes beyond seeds—it’s about building resilience, skyrocketing productivity, and safeguarding our food future,” Kefas declared.
The company, led by Chairman Mr. Prasad Karumanchi, will produce and distribute improved varieties of rice, maize, cowpea, and sorghum tailored to Nigeria’s diverse agro-ecological zones. Plans include expanding the crop portfolio as demand grows. Economic ripple effects are expected too.
Agriculture Commissioner Prof. Nicholas Namessan highlighted new jobs, agribusiness investments, and higher incomes for smallholder farmers, aligning with national drives to cut food imports through boosted local output.
Taraba Seeds Ltd. will partner with research institutions to bridge lab innovations to farm fields, ensuring certified seeds reach farmers on time. CEO Dr. Dileepkumar Guntuku stressed rigorous quality controls and collaborations with regulators and private partners.
