The Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) has introduced a digital platform, EggHome App, to connect egg suppliers with consumers, improve access to fresh eggs and address persistent marketing challenges in Nigeria’s poultry industry.
The association’s National President, Mrs Olaide Graham, disclosed this in an interview in Lagos on Monday, explaining that the initiative was designed to make egg distribution more efficient while helping producers reach buyers and consumers obtain eggs at affordable prices.
The launch coincided with the 2026 celebration of World Egg Day, observed annually on the second Friday in October to highlight the nutritional benefits, affordability and versatility of eggs. Established by the International Egg Commission, the global observance marked its 30th anniversary this year under the theme, “Protein That Powers and Protects”.
Graham said the new platform reflected the association’s drive to expand access to eggs, particularly among households, schools and communities, while using technology to improve transactions across the egg value chain.
“Through this initiative, ESDAN seeks to make fresh eggs more affordable and accessible while providing consumers with a convenient way to connect with egg suppliers,” she said.
She explained that EggHome was intended to bring producers, distributors, retailers and consumers closer together, reducing the difficulties that often arise between production and the final point of sale.
According to her, the platform would also help address recurring egg gluts, during which farmers struggle to find buyers and unsold products risk losing freshness.
“ESDAN recognises that inefficiencies in marketing, distribution and access to consumers can contribute to this challenge,” she said.
Graham noted that weak market connections and distribution bottlenecks could leave producers with excess stock even when consumers were seeking affordable sources of protein.
She said a more transparent and direct link between suppliers and buyers could improve market access, reduce avoidable losses and create better trading opportunities for producers and sellers.
The ESDAN president added that the platform was also intended to curb unfair pricing and exploitation within the distribution chain by promoting a more efficient and balanced market.
She said the association hoped EggHome would help producers find customers more easily, enable distributors to operate more effectively and give consumers greater convenience and value for money.
Beyond the digital initiative, the 2026 World Egg Day celebration featured activities aimed at promoting nutrition education and highlighting the role of eggs in healthy diets.
Graham said students took part in the activities to learn about the nutritional value of eggs and their contribution to growth, development and general wellbeing.
“The students’ participation provided an opportunity to encourage healthier food choices and introduce young people to the importance of nutrition, entrepreneurship, innovation and the poultry industry’s contribution to national development,” she said.
She added that engaging young people across educational levels was important to sustaining nutrition awareness and encouraging their participation in the development of Nigeria’s egg industry.
As part of the celebration, ESDAN also extended support to widows, elderly people and other vulnerable members of society.
Graham said the outreach reflected the association’s belief that its responsibilities extended beyond commercial activities to include community welfare and social inclusion.
“This humanitarian gesture reflected the association’s belief that the success of an organisation should be measured not only by its business achievements but also by its contribution to society,” she said.
She added that the initiative underscored the importance of ensuring that vulnerable people shared in the benefits of community development.
Through EggHome and its public awareness and humanitarian activities, ESDAN aims to strengthen the egg market while promoting the nutritional importance of eggs and supporting the wider poultry industry.
