Food Security: IFAD Backs FG on Digitalisation of Agriculture

The International Funds for Agricultural Development has reiterated commitment with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on its ambitious agenda in transforming agriculture through digitalization.

Responding to this, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Ernest Umakhihe said the ICT4D training as well as the Monetary and Evaluation (M&E) system is an important part of President Tinubu’s agenda in transforming the agriculture sector. 

Speaking during the workshop which started on Tuesday in Abuja, the permanent secretary appreciated IFAD’s collaboration adding that IFAD is in line with the government’s agenda.

Umakhihe who was represented by the Director Planning and Policy Coordination, FMAFS, Ibrahim Taminu said “We have challenges in the sector like insecurity, price inflation and the likes these challenges can be minimize by the adoption of technology that’s why the federal government is keying into this project.

“The ministry is here for you and we intend to scale up production, assist farmers with the use of technology and at the end of the day achieve food security.”

“We will further deepen this collaboration with IFAD and explore more opportunities, so beneficiaries can benefit and their livelihoods improved” he said.
