Food Security: Again, Suspected Herdsmen Kill Five in Benue

According to reports, a minimum of five individuals were tragically killed in separate incidents on Tuesday night in Benue state, allegedly by suspected herdsmen.

Chief (DR) Enoch Nyikyaa Ikyumen, the traditional ruler of Tombo ward, shared with the media that the assailants, who had organized themselves into groups, initially launched an attack on Anyiin town, resulting in the death of three individuals.

Anyiin, the residence of Senator Gabriel Suswam, has previously experienced attacks from herdsmen, but these were successfully repelled by the soldiers stationed in the area.

Following the attack in Anyiin, the group of armed men proceeded to Tsukwa, near the Ashi rice mill factory, where they claimed the life of one person.

Ashi Rice Mill is situated along the Anyiin – Ayilamo Road.

The killings took place specifically on Tuesday night.

According to Chief Nyikyaa, the Gaambetiev area experiences frequent attacks and killings due to its proximity to the bank of River Benue, where farming activities, particularly rice and soybeans, are conducted by the local residents.

The traditional ruler pleaded with the Federal and state governments to increase the presence of security personnel in the area, allowing the people to safely go to their farms and harvest their agricultural produce.
