IWD: Association Commends Women Farmers’ Efforts in Sustaining Food Production

by AgroNigeria

Commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD), the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), Nigeria, commended women farmers for sustaining food production despite daunting challenges.

In a statement signed by the SSA, Nigeria Communication Officer, Moses Nongoatse, the association acknowledged the immense contributions women make in agriculture through their dedication and innovation.

Meanwhile, the SAA Country Director pointed out that if women’s brilliance, dedication, and innovation were fully utilized in agriculture, significant progress could be achieved in the agricultural sector.

Dr. Atser further emphasized the importance of inspiring action towards a future where women are at the forefront and celebrated for their leading role in building prosperous and sustainable food systems.

“The 2024 theme, ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ deeply resonates with Sasakawa Africa Association’s (SAA) vision and mission. We aim to support Africa in fulfilling its aspirations of building resilient and sustainable food systems by catalyzing knowledge sharing and enabling food, nutrition, and income security in communities.

“SAA also recognizes the immense contributions women make in agriculture, a sector where their dedication and innovation are often overlooked. From managing small farms to leading agricultural businesses, women are a cornerstone of food security and rural development.

“SAA’s core agricultural extension approaches—Regenerative Agriculture (RA), Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA), and Market-Oriented Agriculture (MOA)—are designed with inclusivity at their core. We actively dismantle barriers that hinder women’s access to resources, training, and leadership opportunities.

“SAA’s gender mainstreaming training goes beyond agricultural techniques. It equips women with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive, ensuring women have equal opportunities for leadership roles and promoting a culture that celebrates diversity.

“Imagine the possibilities when women’s brilliance, dedication, and innovation are fully unleashed in agriculture.

“This International Women’s Day, let’s not just acknowledge the challenges; let’s inspire action towards a future where women are not only included but celebrated as leaders in shaping a more sustainable and prosperous food system.”
