Minister Calls For Technology-driven Solutions to Reform Nigeria’s Agriculture

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has called for the adoption of technology-driven solutions to reform the country’s agriculture sector.

The minister stated this in a LinkedIn post on Monday, following his visit last week to an innovation farm in Sweden, where he observed the use of technology and automation to improve efficiency in milk production.

Tijani underlined the need for Nigeria to accelerate the integration of technological innovations to drive productivity in agriculture.

“The visit reinforced my belief that we must urgently accelerate the use of innovation and technology to drive efficiency in our agriculture sector,” he said.

The minister’s call comes amid warnings from the United Nations, which recently predicted that 82 million Nigerians—about 64 per cent of the country’s population—may go hungry by 2030.

The UN urged the Nigerian government to tackle climate change, pest infestations, and other threats to agricultural productivity.

Discussing technology as a powerful tool for scaling critical sectors of the economy, Tijani stressed that such advancements were essential for addressing the country’s food security challenges.

According to the minister, agriculture is a vital area where Nigeria can benefit from modern solutions.

Tijani extended his appreciation to the Embassy of Sweden in Nigeria, Business Sweden, and Arla for organising the visit and providing valuable insights.

He also expressed optimism about forming partnerships between Nigeria and Sweden to promote trade and exchange in agricultural technology.

“I look forward to kicking off a partnership to accelerate trade and exchange in agritech between both our countries,” he added.
