ACReSAL Donates Economic Trees to Women Farmers in Bauchi

In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and empower women, the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project has donated 100 different species of economic trees to the Women Farmers Association in Bauchi State.

The donation was made during a training program organized by the Bauchi State College of Agriculture Women Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society, which aims to encourage women to plant trees and contribute to the beautification of their communities while reducing the effects of climate change.

The State Project Coordinator for ACReSAL, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in environmental conservation efforts. He noted that the tree donation aligns with the project’s One Person One Tree initiative, which seeks to encourage tree planting among the general public.

The project’s Gender Officer, Maimuna G Aliyu, reiterated the significance of women’s participation in addressing environmental challenges. She commended the Women Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society for their efforts in empowering women through backyard farming.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College of Agriculture, welcomed the participants and stressed the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve sustainable development.

The Chairperson of the Women Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Hajiya Amina Haruna, expressed gratitude for the tree donation and highlighted the training’s objective of empowering women through agricultural activities. She emphasized the positive impact of such initiatives on livelihoods and climate resilience.

Also speaking, Dr. Aliyu Ilyasu Gital, the State Agriculture Commissioner,  commended the organizers for their foresight and pledged government support for initiatives aimed at promoting food security and environmental sustainability.

The event was attended by representatives from ACReSAL, ATBU, BASCOA, BASEPA, BSADP, the media, and women’s groups.
