AFAN President Urges Innovation in Wheat Farming, Seeks Africa’s Self-Sufficiency

The President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Arc. Kabir Ibrahim, has emphasized the need for Africa to produce wheat instead of relying on imports.

Speaking at the Regional Wheat Summit 2023 in Abuja on Wednesday, he expressed concern about Nigeria’s significant wheat deficit.

In his words, “For us as an association, we are ready to assist in any way to ensure wheat self-sufficiency in the country.”

He highlighted the current wheat monopoly held by Ukraine and Russia, advocating for increased local production in Africa, saying, “we must produce what we eat.”

The AFAN President also pledged farmers’ readiness to adopt innovative technologies for advancing investment in the wheat value chain.
