After 8 Years, Rivers Govt Moves to Revive Songhai Farms

The Rivers State Government is actively working to revive the Songhai model farm in Tai Local Government Area, according to an announcement by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

The governor made this known during his address at the SIMplified Movement Thanksgiving service held on Saturday. The service celebrated his recent Supreme Court victory and landslide victory in the 2023 elections.

Represented by the Leader of the Simplified Movement in Rivers State and former Assembly member, Honorable Evans Bapakaye Bipi, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector and reducing hunger. He aims to ensure food security for residents of the state.

He expressed confidence that reviving Songhai Farms would not only lead to food self-sufficiency but also create employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

Governor Fubara further stated that despite his administration’s good intentions regarding the Songhai Farms project, some individuals attempted to sabotage the program at the last minute. He alleged that these individuals offered slippers and rice to the people of Tai Local Government Area, seemingly in an attempt to disrupt the event.

During the event, Honorable Robinson Ewoh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers West Senatorial District, commended Governor Fubara for his dedication to the well-being of citizens.

Ewoh highlighted the governor’s efforts in crucial areas like infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He noted how Governor Fubara’s leadership provided relief amid challenging economic conditions.
