Bauchi Targets 1.5m Livestock in Vaccination Campaign Across 20 LGAs

by AgroNigeria

The Bauchi State Government has launched a livestock vaccination campaign aimed at vaccinating over 1.5 million animals across all 20 local government areas of the state.

This initiative, which also involves the procurement of over 10,000 doses of rabies vaccines, was in response to the recent incidents of animal bites involving dogs and other animals in certain parts of the state.

The primary objective of the vaccination campaign is to improve the health of the state’s livestock, which will in turn encourage livestock farming and contribute to the overall economic growth of the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed, while inaugurating the 2025 Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Itas Gadau Local Government Area, highlighted Bauchi’s prominence as a state with high livestock population.

He credited this development to the influx of Fulani cattle breeders from conflict-prone regions across the country.

In a bid to further enhance livestock management, Governor Mohammed announced the establishment of the State Ministry of Livestock Development.

This new ministry is designed to tackle the challenges faced by herders and farmers, while also promoting livestock production.

The governor noted that the ministry’s creation aligns with the federal government’s policy on livestock management and welfare.

The state government has also entered into collaborations with various donor organizations and non-governmental groups to establish semi-earth dams and implement other projects aimed at advancing livestock development.

These efforts are expected to increase food production, improve the livelihoods of farmers and herders, and bolster the state’s economic prosperity.

Governor Mohammed stressed the importance of optimizing both human and animal resources to boost food production and improve the quality of life for the people of Bauchi.

He expressed gratitude for the support of traditional leaders, religious groups, and security agencies in maintaining peace, and urged the public to actively participate in farming and livestock production to enhance the state’s economy.

The governor also announced plans to construct 100 dams along major cattle routes to ensure a steady water supply for livestock and foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

During the campaign launch, the state Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf Tilde, and the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Muhammad Husaini Buzaye, both lauded the governor for his efforts and urged livestock owners to fully embrace the vaccination program.

The leaders also called for the inclusion of animal feed distribution and continuous vaccination initiatives within the state.
