On Sunday, Hon. Ismail Haruna Dabo, the Representative of Toro Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, officially launched the distribution of assorted fertilisers worth N54 million to farmers from all 17 wards of the constituency.
During the ceremony at Salma Hall Magama, he initiated the distribution of two trailers of NPK fertiliser to 2,500 farmers under the Haske Farmers Care program, which was introduced in 2023 and has already distributed over 3,000 bags of fertiliser.
The event marked the beginning of the fertiliser distribution program, which is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across Toro Federal Constituency, including women’s groups.
This initiative demonstrated his dedication to empowering farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices towards improving the lives and well being of the people through farming as the greater percentage of the people of the Constituency involved in Agriculture.
By this development, Toro Federal Constituency is poised for a productive farming season, with numerous groups benefiting from this generous gesture.
The beneficiaries, who spoke to journalists shortly after the event, praised the timely intervention, considering the exorbitant cost of fertiliser in the market. They expressed gratitude for the support, which will significantly enhance their farming endeavours.
Stakeholders of the APC, including former Reps members and the State Chairman, commended the Member’s goodwill and encouraged him to sustain the effort despite the limited resources available. They acknowledged his dedication to the constituency’s development.
Former Secretary of the NFA and former Member Representing Toro Federal Constituency, Sani Ahmed Toro, explained that the fertiliser distribution program aims to support local farmers in increasing crop yields, improving food security, and boosting the local government’s agricultural output.
In response, the member promised to collaborate closely with the Bauchi South Senator, Shehu Buba Umar, and all other stakeholders to attract meaningful development to Toro Local Government and the state at large.
According to him, “I pledged to personally lead the debate at the floor of the House of Representatives to ensure passage of the Bill for an Act to establish Orthopaedic Hospital in Toro Local Government.”
“We were there for the public hearing that took place at the Senate and will ensure that it sees the light of the day,” he assured.
The initiative aligns with the Honourable Member’s commitment to prioritising agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and development, says Alhaji Sabiyu Tilden Fulani who will oversee the distribution process, ensuring its smooth execution as Chairman of the committee of Haske Farmers Care.
The member used the occasion to caution Youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction, saying, “As we speak, we will debate these impending issues as your elected representatives and will forward your request to President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for quick action but Protest is never a solution.”
According to him, “A lot of people may think, these trailers of fertiliser being distributed today came from the Federal Government, it is not. We procured it out of the urgent need to support our people to ensure bumper harvest as a remedy to poverty, hunger and unemployment.”
He also stated that,”As you can see , we have been allocated a trailer of Fertilizer by the Federal Government but it is yet to arrive. These two trailers cost us not less than N54 million instead of waiting for the arrival of the allocated Fertilizer which is yet to be officially handed over to us.”
He thanked people of the Constituency while soliciting for continuing support of the constituents in order to achieve greater heights.
The event was well attended by party Stakeholders, leaders of the party, Traditional and religious leaders , Youths and women groups as well supporters.
