The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari has revealed that plans are underway to commence the release of 58,500 metric tons of milled rice into the market to stabilize prices.
The Minister also said the Federal Government has launched the distribution of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains to strategic locations in state capitals, aiming to ease hunger nationwide.
Speaking at an interactive session with the Senate’s joint Committee on Agriculture, Production Services, and Rural Development, Kyari addressed concerns about food inflation. He emphasized the Ministry’s directive for the free distribution of these grains to the Nigerian population.
Kyari acknowledged the need for discretion in some distribution movements due to security concerns. However, he assured the committee that many states have already begun receiving their allocated grains.
In addition to the grain distribution, Kyari emphasized the release of 58,500 metric tons of milled rice as an intervention targeted at stabilizing food prices.
He underscored the urgency of these actions, highlighting the hardships faced by Nigerians. Kyari also emphasized collaboration with national security agencies to safeguard food warehouses from vandalism.
