First Lady Harvests Vegetable From Villa Garden

by AgroNigeria

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has renewed her call for Nigerians to embrace home gardening as she recorded another harvest from the vegetable garden at the Presidential Villa, describing the practice as a practical way to improve food security, promote healthy living and support environmental sustainability.

The garden, established about two years ago under the #EveryHomeAGarden initiative remains productive, yielding vegetables such as spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin. The initiative was introduced to encourage households across the country to cultivate home gardens as part of efforts to strengthen national food security.

During a routine visit to the garden, the First Lady showcased the latest harvest and urged Nigerians to sustain interest in growing vegetables at home, noting that home gardening provides families with access to fresh, nutritious food at a relatively low cost.

She also said the practice contributes to climate change mitigation by encouraging greener environments and sustainable food production.

As part of the harvest, Tinubu shared some of the freshly harvested vegetables with members of her staff, while encouraging Nigerians to cultivate the habit of giving and showing compassion to others through acts of kindness.
