FG to Create Nutrition Departments in Federal Ministries

In a bid to ramp up nutrition interventions across Nigeria, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima has unveiled plans to establish dedicated nutrition departments within federal ministries and increase funding for nutrition activities. 

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari disclosed this on his Twitter page, where he said the announcement came during a meeting with the Nutrition Core Working Committee at the Presidential Villa, where critical challenges and potential solutions for enhancing nutrition were discussed.

According to him, Vice President Shettima affirmed the government’s commitment to tackle nutrition issues head-on, emphasizing the importance of creating nutrition departments in key ministries and stepping up advocacy campaigns and funding for related initiatives.

Ministries such as Water Resources and Sanitation, Science and Technology, Budget and Economic Planning, Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Information and National Orientation, Education, and Women Affairs are set to be urged to fast-track the establishment of nutrition departments within their respective domains.

The Vice President’s proactive stance underscores the government’s determination to improve the nutritional well-being of its populace and marks a significant step towards addressing nutrition challenges in Nigeria.
