The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has teamed up with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to develop a strategy aimed at combating food shortages and inflation while boosting food production across the country.
This initiative was announced following a closed-door meeting between the two ministries, held in the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja.
The meeting included both Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Ministers of Water Resources and Sanitation, along with other relevant stakeholders, highlighting the importance of the discussion.
After the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security briefed the media, saying that the collaboration between the two ministries is designed to address the nation’s food security challenges.
He assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to ensuring a sufficient food supply and tackling the broader issues facing the country.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation also spoke, stating that his ministry has abundant water resources for irrigation, arable land, and the technical expertise needed for large-scale farming.
He emphasized the need for seedlings and other agricultural inputs to make the most of the ministry’s 500,000 irrigable lands across twelve River Basins.
Representing the private sector, Mr. Magaji of African Farmer expressed his commitment to driving significant improvements in the agricultural sector before the end of the year.
This collaboration between the Ministries marks a significant step forward, with promises of increased food production and improved irrigation infrastructure. Nigerians are hopeful that these initiatives will lead to tangible results.
